Geothermal Drilling
Drilling for geothermal energy may seem like a complex process but with advancements in technology over recent years it has become more efficient than ever before - making it one of the most cost-effective forms of renewable energy available today! By taking advantage of this abundant resource beneath our feet we can reduce emissions that contribute to global warming while also creating jobs in renewable energy industries throughout many countries around world; plus save money on utility bills by converting our buildings into environmentally friendly green spaces powered by renewable energy sources.
Geothermal drilling is often used in conjunction with ground source heat pumps (GSHPs). These systems take advantage of naturally occurring reservoirs of heated groundwater close to or below ground level by circulating water through loops of pipe buried underground. Heat exchange takes place between this circulating water and nearby aquifers; thus, GSHPs provide an efficient way to transfer heat from these natural reservoirs back into homes or businesses where it can be used for space heating and cooling purposes.
At ADS drilling we use drilling rigs equipped with the latest technology in addition to Tier 4 and 5 ULEZ compliant engines to ensure that we’re able to operate within inner city, suburban or remote sites alike, whilst ensuring that our carbon footprint is consistently low.
Over the past few years, with the growth in the Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) sector, we have undertaken a growing number of commercial and domestic installations, many of which have comprised an array of boreholes within a limited space. Our capabilities in the sector include:
- Drilling to depths in excess of up to 200 metres below ground level.
- Collection and recycling of drill flush/flushing medium in order to reduce liquid waste and to ensure fluid control and a clean drill site.
- Installation of GSHP loops within a ‘closed loop’ system, ensuring that the most efficient use of the heat-exchanging liquid.
- Installation of high performance grout via ‘tremie’, ensuring the borehole is grouted from the base of the hole to the surface, with no voids or leaks.
- Flow and Pressure testing
- Demobilisation and a ‘leave no trace’ approach.
